Bredesen Inauguration this Weekend

 

Governor Phil Bredesen will be inaugurated on Saturday, January 20th, as the 47th Governor of Tennessee.  The event will take place on the War Memorial Plaza here in Nashville.  The Legislature will hold a Joint Convention that morning to recognize the event, and then adjourn to attend the ceremony. This Inauguration will be a low key event, as compared to the Governor’s Inauguration four years ago where there were black tie balls and dinners.  This year, the Inaugural committee has planned casual parties at the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Wildhorse Saloon and  B.B. King’s club in downtown Nashville.  All events are free to the public.

The House is scheduled to reconvene on Monday, January 29th.  The Senate is schedule to reconvene on Monday, February 5th.

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey is expected to announce his standing committee appointments on Friday.  Much speculation has been made as to what senators will receive what appointments.  All committees are expected to have a Republican majority.  The Republicans are also moving offices to the Legislative Plaza, changing the Democratic control that building has had for decades.

Bill filing deadlines have not been announced, but are expected to be sometime in the middle of February.  The Governor will give his State of the State address on Monday, February 5th.
